A rich anecdotal porait of an amazing Air Power pioneer
Rating (4)

Traces the career of one of the most important and influencial air power pioneers. From the formative years at Maxwell AFB through the bloody skies of WWII, you see the development of the Army Air Corps and one of the most powerful forces ever....the Mighty Eighth Air Force. You are in the sidelines to important strategy sessions and live the victories and defeats in the years from 1942 to 1945. You see a man who "lived" Air Force and whose desk had a nameplate which underscored his zeal...."AIR FORCE SPOKEN HERE." This is very readable, interesting, and good insight in how a few young firebrands of a single generation can influence a large corporate body when charged with innovation and vision. Its interesting to see how many of the great Air Force pioneers were so closely intertwined during their formative years; how the young Lts bacame the great leaders of WWII years later. From daredevil stunt pilot to senior Air Force general is a long road filled with humour and irony. This is a good read and required at the USAF Air War College. Anyone that enjoys AF or WWII history should have this in his library.
