Editorial Reviews

Product Description
This book provides an overview of TCP/IP, the Internet Protocol Suite developed by the United States Department of Defense for use in resource sharing computer networks. TCP/IP stands for Transmission Control/Internet Protocol and refers not only to the protocols but also to the set of services that collectively allow computer systems to connect to one another in order to exchange files, electronic mail and interactive character streams. TCP is in common use in engineering and academic environments as well as within the Federal Government. With the advent of commercial products that supply TCP/IP software, many other businesses can now use this set of communication services. The book groups materials according to the seven layers of the ISO Reference Model, each layer of which pro- vides a specified level of networking service. The book assumes no familiarity with the TCP/IP Protocol Suite but assumes familiarity with the basic features of LANs, protocols, cabling schemes and networking.
