Product Description
Former Speaker of the Arkansas House of Representatives Hayes McClerkin has been collecting thoughts and words of wisdom all his life. He originally started emailing short insightful messages to his daughters. It didn't take long for the list of recipients of these "thoughts for the day" to grow into what is now the hundreds. In response to a chorus of requests, McClerkin has put the collected thoughts into an entertaining, pithy, and edifying little volume with author's commentaries and humorous illustrations by Jeffrey Vasquez. McClerkin, who subscribes to the axiom, "Say in as few words as necessary what needs to be said to get the point across," is quick to acknowledge his thoughts have been cultivated from everyday sources, such as the church pulpit, the neighborhood barber shop and what he calls good old common sense. This book is good reading and makes an ideal gift for those who enjoy homespun philosophy with a humorous twist.

This is the sort of book everyone should have on a desk or bedside table. The one line thoughts are clear, compelling and insightful. They range from formal to casual, traditional to contemporary, lighthearted to deeply personal. Any truly introspective person can use a daily dose of "Thoughts" because you will find yourself on every page.

Shortcuts to Life's Secrets, the Collected Thoughts of Hayes McClerkin would make Benjamin Franklin proud. Like Poor Richard's Almanac, McClerkin shares in his book a lifetime of wisdom in short essays followed by hundreds of thought provoking aphorisms. An example, "When you look out only for yourself, you are blinded as to what other people see in you." A minute a day with Shortcuts to Life's Secrets will enrich your life.

I am so glad Mr. McClerkin shared his colorful "Shortcuts to Life's Secrets" so I can apply them to my everyday life experience. Mr. McClerkin's "quotes" do apply to every day living and these secrets he shared with first his family and now the public make for a much happier, practical outlook on life. If these "secrets" were shared with the younger generation, a much more intelligent, well behaved bunch of kids would burst forth. Easy, enlightening reading. Thanks, Mr. Mc
