Product Description
Gold and silver coins, homebuilt steam engines, Jeffersonian ideas: vital tools in the tiny town of Mountainview, West Virginia, and its fight for survival when terrorist nukes trigger a U.S. economic and social collapse. Tom—no illusions left—had returned home for peace and quiet, for his books and music. Halfheartedly running his faltering small-town Gravely Tractor dealership, the last thing he wants is a loony leftist from California on his hands. Sophie—wealthy limousine Liberal—is now a desperate, widowed refugee, stranded by the turmoil of The Collapse in tiny Mountainview. The last place she wants to be is in Flyover Country. Chief Barley—middle-aged, overweight small-town cop—never wanted to do anything more than run his three-man department and write an occasional speeding ticket. The last thing he feels qualified for is guiding an entire town through desperate times. Action, love, and ideas: this thoughtful story shows ordinary people’s extraordinary achievements in A World Turned Upside Down.

In A World Turned Upside Down the author, J.M. Dent, skillfully uses a profound knowledge of history, economics and psychology to tell a riveting story. Chapter 17 is one of my favorites. It shows an extraordinary understanding of humanity at it's worst and best in the tale of Sam. The novels characters are interesting and entertaining as they tell the story of their survival from the economic and social collapse of the nation from terrorists acts. The active storyline is remarkably accurate using surgery, steam generators, Amish community life, herbal remedys, salt mining and much more to reveal the depth of the community's resolve to succeed.
I enjoyed the book and the characters in it and look forward to a sequel to A World Turned Upside Down.
