Decent Digest of Scholarly Opinion on Paul and His Theology
Rating (4)
Date: 2005-11-19
This short little book (114 pages, including index) is a decent digest of the modern scholarship regarding the theology of Paul, "the Apostle." The author is a Catholic priest, but he covers modern Protestant and Catholic scholarship regarding Paul's so-called "Damascus Experience," The resurrection of Christ (and its meaning), Paul's views on Justification, and Paul's image of faith in "the cross," and - finally - the "hope" Paul expressed in Christ.
Minor criticisms: Those of the Reformed traditions will find slim pickings in this volume. The notions of "election" and "predestination" aren't treated in any significant way.
I personally found Fr. Joseph Fitzmyer's articles on Paul and Pauline Theology (improvements on his older stand-alone "Pauline Theology") in "The New Jerome Biblical Commentary" a better treatment of the subject, but this book from Fr. Plevnik is a good effort.
