Editorial Reviews

Album Description
This is the first release for The Freddie Brooks Band. This West Coast Blues extravaganza has it all: sure-fire swing grooves, down-and-dirty slow blues, edgy blues-rock tracks, and atmospheric ballads -- the performances range from sincere, heartfelt testimonials to tongue-in-cheek humor. The rock-solid rythym section provides the foundation for Brooks' searing harmonica and Ross' over-the-top guitar work.

THE REAL DEAL

"One Little Word" was a pleasant surprise. The CD has a solid mix of Chicago, Swing, Jazz and R&B Blues. My favorite cut is the slow "Jigsaw Puzzle" which has some catchy guitar licks. The song takes the Blues into the space age. Freddie Brooks in concert is a master showman with great harp playing, vocals, humor and stage presence. His music seems to go over for both men and women. Unlike alot of White performers, Brooks doesn't try to be Black and stays in own style. Freddie is the real deal and this CD is the best hidden treasure in the Blues.

I got the unexpected pleasure of discovering Freddie performing for a small crowd of about 30... that maybe stretching it.In a dive midwest bar,on the corner,in the pouring rain, without his band but...with no less of one. And far west of what he was accustomed too. WOW...HE BLEW THE MORTAR OUTDA' OLD BRICK WALLS! I snagged my CD that night as did the others.I Related, sang along and even danced ta dem' blues.

this cd is out of sight. brooks' vocals are like the moon crooning unto itself, seemingly alone up there in the earth's view. but then he can crank it up and seem more like the prize fighter, making the winning punch through a roar of sprayed rage. this blues is real news.

A hot new talent on the Blues horizon.

This CD blends a little of a lot of different influences into an emotional, groovable, danceable musical stew, with Freddie Brooks stirring the pot! A great harp player and songwriter who brings a unique new voice to the Blues, yet pays homage to his roots. The tight, grooving band rounds out the total package that is the Freddie Brooks Band.
