Description
Join Edward Windsor, third son and youngest child of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, as he continues his exploration of English historical sites. Using his unique position as writer and royal family member, Windsor provides an interesting and provocative look at historical English locations, their stories and the current monarchy. In these programs, he explores sites in and around London, including the River Thames, the House of Parliament, the current Royal Family residences of Saint James Palace and Buckingham Palace and two forts just outside London - Hertford Castle and Guildford Castle.

I was stationed in the UK while active duty Air Force for 3 years and am a hopeless Anglophile. My enjoyment of this series is colored by my own memories of the places so well portrayed in these vifeos. We were living only 9 miles north of Cambridge, and almost in sight of Ely, and one could certainly spend years absorbing the history and intrigue of these cities alone. That is where this series falls short- if you are serioussly interested in English history they will leave you wanting a lot more. As an aside, Prince Edward is a very capable narrator, though the unique perspective one might expect from a member of the Royal Family is conspicuouysly absent. I would recommend these tapes for middle-school aged children an older, and for those planning a trip to the UK. For more serious Sunday afternoon scholars, I suggest the BBC's History of Britain series.
